Milk Men Calling

"YOU NEED MILK, MOM?"

Yesterday MLC had the pleasure of having a friend over to play. When I say pleasure, I mean it causes him to truly shudder with delight at the prospect of socialization! You can say now that I have given birth to 2 of a kind. JOC thrives on the socialization as well. I foresee many busy days ahead:-) I love it though. Not much pleases me more than seeing my children enjoy playtime with friends. It is facinating to watch the interaction and frankly, somewhat energizing!

MLC son 3of 3 and MT son of LeahBelle found my, yes my, toy stash (there are more where this came from). You know it goes back to my love of things old,....dishes and now you know it extends to toys. This set of milk jugs has entertained MLC for two days now. Seeing him play with them takes me back to the many hours of imaginative play I enjoyed so many years ago. Do any of you still have a favorite toy from your childhood?

Newest addition!

Several weeks ago, I found myself downtown near our local "Goodwill". My well-trained 7 year old begged to go in. What could a mother do? Of course I obliged him! To any of my dear, loved friends that know me well, you know my passion for old things...particularly old dishes.
I was looking through the children's clothing when I heard the rattle of glassware. I dashed...almost embarrassingly unrestrained over to the glassware. There a lady was loading up on some non-descript 80's or 90's square soup bowl sized pyrex. Nothing like I collect. As I wondered away from her buggy, I wondered what I would have done if she had a buggy full of desireables. I conviced myself that I simply would have shared in her joy and congratulated her! About that time, as I was evaluating the cause of my impulsiveness to check in on the other dish shopper.....there on the shelf I found the loaf pan. Not just any loaf pan, but a white milk glass with tuquoise flowers. It is a beauty indeed! At moments like these, I thank my Lord for letting me find it! Yet just another one of my life's simple pleasures!

Repurposing Found Items

Remember, I like vintage! I like old dishes, old toys, well, my home was built in the 1950’s. Those who know me well, know to what extremes I like things older. I have always seen an intrinsic value in things of age. The wear only endears it to me. I hold sentimental attachment to items used by cooks before me. Several weeks ago, I found a canister set.

I questioned myself when I picked it up because it really is not a reflection of the colors I love, love, love, but I kept it in my shopping buggy as I went throughout the store. All the while, I was weighing whether or not I needed it. It was missing a lid. You know, I was trying to talk myself out of it. So, I carried the set up to the cashier and asked if there was a chance they would have the lid in the sorting room. It was then that she pointed out to me that the Tea canister had been burned as well.

It was then that I thought it was not meant for me…then she said, “Since it is missing a lid and it is burned, you can have the set as it is for .50.” The set had to go home with me. I supposed I would take it home and paint it red. As I have been just a little busy, I just set it up on the shelf above the kitchen sink.

While unloading the dishwasher, I was struggling to get some utensils into the crock.

Due to a shortage of drawer space, a minor flaw with homes of age, all of my cooking and prep utensils are in crocks on my counter. I reach for then over and over, it just makes sense for them to always be within reach. When they are all clean, however, the crocks were rather crowded and difficult for all of them to fit.

My mind turned to the rejected canister set. It has been
re-purposed and is now the new home of the utensils. A nice new option for only .50!!!

Collecting....

Dishes, dishes, dishes.............I love anything "Fireking" and "old Pyrex". 50's- 70's glassware is so colorful and happy!

Seeing my collection may seem excessive. I assure you, I use them all.

Anyone that knows me well, would verify that these all get very well used.

I have really utilized these for delivering supper co-op.

These also hold fond memories of my pre-parenthood days of antiquing and shopping thrift stores looking for these treasures.
