Are you dressed, MLC?

He came running into the kitchen, wrapped in towel, my question filling the air even though I knew the answer....His reply was a loud "yep!" and an unfurled towel and a boy standing naked....."the skin is clothes for blood and bones!"  The insanity!!!!

Big Fat and White

Sooooo, yesterday I had the pleasure to take 3 sons to a bridal shop.  Yes the day is quickly approaching that sons 1 and 2 will be playing violins for our friends wedding.  As an aside, she accepted the audition!

The older two were measured and as we were ordering the tux shirts and bow ties, MLC the #3 son insisted that he too should be measured since he would be playing in the wedding.  I explained to him that when he was older and taking lessons, he could also play in weddings.  Imploringly he said, "Mom, I play Big Fat and White with my guitar with my guys!"  I laughed and then had to explain to the sales lady that he was referring to the Bridal March....and yes, that is how my sweet MLC sings to the tune.

Crashing is cool the rest of the story....

Very excited that he is riding his bike without training wheels!
A million, "Look at me, Mom"..s throughout the day.  I love it.
"MOM!!!!!!!"  I come running...with camera in hand.
"What is wrong, Dear?"  "I crashed, Mom."

I thought crashing is cool.  "It is only cool when you stay on the bike, Mom.", he replies.....as he assesses the damage to his knees.  I keep taking pictures.

His buddy says....I fell off my bike take my picture too.  I fine.....
boys, boys, boys....both of these sweet kids are the 3rd son of 3 boys

Play Dough

This would be my preferred recipe...you know, I suppose it is because of the nostalgia. My momma made it for me too. I remember making this with her for my friends as a birthday gift as well.

She would store it in a Tupperware container to keep it from drying out. These days Tupperware is readily found at thrift stores.

Mom's recipe actually came from La Leche Club brochure that she received at the time we were rather young....so it has been in the family a long time. Thanks to google..one can find anything...and relive the memories of years gone by and create new special memories for my own dear, "man clan"! Hope you enjoy making this and making many hours of fun for your little ones.

Earth Friendly Play Dough
  • 1 cup flour (not self-rising)
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar

Mix in saucepan over low heat. (It does not have to heat long.) Dough is ready when it rolls into a ball. Keep dough fresh in an airtight container. If you need to make different colors, add food coloring while mixing over heat.

( I did not add my color in the pan...I divided the dough into 5 sections and kneaded it in after using cake icing color...my hands did not fare well. However, the kids like the swirled look of the color. The hands are also dyed....not to be confused with dead. MLC kept asking me why did I do that to my hands...I just kept telling him...I love you lots, Bud....) So much for that perfect manicure....just not my reality today:-)....maybe a week from now:-)

The quantity shown was from a double batch.

MLC 3rd of 3....Happy Birthday to you!!!

Happy Birthday my little one!

He wanted to sing to himself....it disappointed him that we joined in on the song.

Rather yummy. He is still waiting for the "tractor cake"!
He will get it at the tractor party.

Happy little man! So hard to believe that sweet little baby of mine is three!

From the lips of babes...2nd installment

For many weeks now, my EJC, has been preaching through the book of Daniel. The book has so much to glean. Daniel as a character study alone could consume several weeks. What a man of God! Steadfast and faithful are just a few words that come to mind to describe him. There is also the prophetic side of the book of Daniel. One Sunday morning my MLC, 3rd of 3...he is also almost 3...looked up at me during the sermon and most randomly said, "I love jelly beans!" I was puzzled at his untimely declaration of such love. Then I heard my preacher husband again make reference to the "angelic beings". It all made sense!

Oh, it has taken some real consistency to get that little man to be so good in church. Now I know he is even listening! Now, onto what is he hearing?!?!

From the lips of babes...

This week on more than one occasion, the timing and situation of things said by my MLC truly took me by surprise. The first occasion occurred at my aunt's kitchen table as I was tearfully sharing a concern, he looked up and began to sing the Steve Green's scripture song..."when I am afraid I will trust in Thee...." Then this morning while I was dressing him for church he made up a tune that included the words "honor your mother, it will keep you from trouble." He is learning that for which I am very grateful, as he truly has been acting like a rather normal 3 year old lately. Also, this morning he greeted folks after church telling them that "his birthday is gonna start!" (It's in May...the end of May.) I suppose he is hoping for a month long celebration!

Repurposed corn cobs

Ok, I know all the nutrition is in the peel, but to be honest...I don't like the peel. And after trying to get the kiddos to eat it and finding that they had spit it out randomly throughout the house...I have conceded and I peel apples. I rationalize it. The waxy polish on the apples can't be great for them anyway. And the pesticides...you know....I can be a push over!

I was rather amazed a few days ago when the 3rd of 3 in the man clan requested the corn cob holders. Many years ago I attended a course regarding organization...the lady was rather comical regarding having items in the kitchen which only have one use and she was brutal regarding the corn cob holders. Being that the man clan has always been so enamored by the sports themed corn cob holders which I possess, I had never decluttered to the extent of ridding my drawer of these. I have news for her! It is my pleasure to declare the corn cob holders a multi use item!!!! Thank you, my dear, MLC 3rd of 3!

Who's walking who?

Recovery after the walk.
I think they sympathized with one another.
They both have short-leg issues.

This was truly a memorable day for MLC.
He was excited to tell all that he got to walk Knuckles!

As he sings..."Suuuper Maaaan!"

So, if he does this when I am looking............what is he doing when I am not!!!

I guess that is a parental concern at all ages, huh?!?!

2 is not so terrible..........

It has been such a delight lately to see little MLC growing up! I won't pretend that he isn't normal. He does have his occasional typically 2 year old outbursts; however, the times of reveling in the marvel of his mental and physical developement has been such a pleasure. His vocabulary seems to be expanding exponentially!

His pattern of play has even changed. Rather than playing with toys like he is tornado and the toys are the victims in his path; he now spends tedious moments arranging and rearranging the farm set and animals. He now enjoys stacking more than scattering. It is really fascinating to see the changes.

Now, singing and the reading of books has become even more of a delight within the past few weeks. Bedtime ritual now includes the "tractor book and the train book". I think it even helps him sleep better. He sings hymns all the time! Up until now his attention span and activity level did not allow him the leisure of watching TV. He is now a "Baby Einstein" fan and even asks to watch Andy Griffith. He even quotes Andy! He especially loves any episodes with music..

He is also becoming quite the comic. He certainly thinks he is as big as his brothers. More and more he is spending time with them and immitating them. It is easy to see that he really does look up to them.

Potty training is going rather well. The only complaint is that when the notion hits him; the pants come down. It matters not whether he is outside, in the kitchen, at the lake, at the town square or in church. He does not yet understand that the socially acceptable thing is to not bare all until in the privacy of a bathroom facility. It will come in time, though, I hope. He is doing so well though. This evening after going to bed, he awoke twice telling me he needed to use the potty, and he was right! I am amazed!
